Flint

We are fortunate to be based in an area in which flint is readily available and was therefore widely used in the construction of vernacular buildings. Consequently we experience flint in nearly all our projects whether we are laying new flint walls, repairing flint walls or repointing flintwork. In our region, flint work is generally laid either as split flint, unfaced whole flint or a mixture of the two. Often it is laid with other materials too such as chalk or brick. 

Where walls are damaged and in need of repair we will try to re-use as much of the original flint material as possible, only sourcing new flints when necessary. As always detail is the key and flints do come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. We take care to match in with the existing work when using new materials so that the repairs are discrete and in keeping with existing work.
