Flint

We are fortunate to be based in a region where flint is abundant and has long been used in the construction of vernacular buildings. As a result, flintwork features in almost all of our projects, whether laying new flint walls, repairing existing ones, or repointing historic flintwork.

In this area, flint is typically laid as split flint, whole unfaced flint, or a mixture of the two, often combined with other materials such as chalk or brick.

When repairing damaged flint walls, we aim to reuse as much of the original material as possible, sourcing new flints only when necessary. Attention to detail is key: flints vary in size, shape, and colour, so we carefully select and set new pieces to blend seamlessly with the existing work.

This ensures that our repairs remain discreet and in keeping with the character of the building.
