Repairs and Maintenance

Based in South Wiltshire, much of our repair and maintenance work focuses on the vernacular building materials of the region. This typically includes cob, brick, flint, stone, and chalk masonry.

Older buildings require regular upkeep, and much of our work involves correcting previous repairs where incompatible materials have been used. As a result, we are specialists in removing cement mortars and renders and replacing them with lime. We work exclusively with lime mortars and lime renders and can colour-match new mortar to the existing.

Where masonry has been damaged, we assess the extent and either repair or replace using locally sourced materials on a like-for-like basis. Bricks, flint, and stone are repaired or replaced with local equivalents, while damaged chalk blocks can be replaced in the traditional Wiltshire style using quarried chalk.

We also specialise in cob repairs, both to houses and garden walls. These are carried out using mass (wet) cob, as originally laid. Where possible, we re-mix and reuse existing cob to complete the repair without additional materials. Where new cob is required, we mix it traditionally and bring it to site for use in the repair.
