COB WALLS, BRICK, FLINT & STONE A SPECIALITY
This was a lovely Chilmark stone house which had been re-pointed with a suitable lime mortar in the past. One area of this re-pointing had failed and was showing large and deep signs of wear. This could have resulted from any number of reasons: that batch of mortar was not well mixed, the deep holes were not well packed, the deep holes were filled in one go instead of building up the depth of mortar in stages.
My repairs were to match the mortar for colour and aggregates, to re-point the deeper areas in stages and to pay great attention to the finishing of the mortar to blend the wall together. You can see the area of the top of the photo has not been re-pointed or cleaned.
