This is really about me, although I do plan to bring other craftsmen onto projects as and when required.
My interest in buildings started with three years of training to be a Surveyor at the College of Estate Management, Reading University. I choose a career in the Army and maintained my love of buildings by buying and doing up several old properties and learning skills in the process. I have completed a one year course, qualifying with a Professional Development Diploma in Building Conservation, at West Dean College, Chichester, in collaboration with English Heritage. Called the ‘Building Conservation Masterclasses’ it covers ten modules of my choice on aspects of conservation and repair of old buildings. I have also attended other courses on lime mortars, lime rendering, cob repair, repointing and flint work. These are covered at West Dean but the extra courses helped further my knowledge on the subjects. Various courses run by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) have given me a greater understanding of conservation, shown me that there is a circle of other craftsmen around to call on when needed, and that there is a wealth of technical publication available on the traditional skills that I will apply in my business.
If I can assist you with your repair of an old building, do please get in touch.
